It’s been a while since I updated my blog, almost a month. This month has been busy for me planning a beer festival, planting tomatoes and letting go of plants that are either over-fertilized or killed by the heat.
My pumpkins and squash died due to heat. One squash plant turned black at the roots. Not sure why and even though I had 6 baby squash growing fine, I came home from work and they were black and fuzzy. After reading several “googled” articles, I think that my beds hold too much moisture. They are really large, like 3 feet wide and 6 feet long, HUGE. It’s hard to work around them. But it was my first year, so I want to cut myself some slack. I plan on asking my dad to cut them down to smaller boxes and see how that works next year.
I’ve had three lima bean harvests this year, which sounds great but I only had 6 plants grow so I only get a handful of beans per harvest. No biggie though, I’ll just plant more next year. Bradley helped me harvest a few.
My tomatoes seem to be doing really well so far. I hope the moisture doesn’t get them. They are cherry tomatoes and I’m excited to see the turn out.
Our dog is pregnant which sucks but it’s just another test of patience on my part so I’m rolling with it. Puppies should be here in the next few weeks.
I’ve also been one of three people planning a beer festival in my downtown community. We have been working on it over a year and tomorrow is the big day. I’ll be posting about my joy of selling out soon.
